Johnny Burnais’ passion for beauty and creativity combined with a tireless work ethic has made him a standout makeup artist for 20 years.
Johnny’s creative impulse started at a very young age. As the son of a hairdresser and a mechanic, he was inspired by the constant energy of fixing things and making them look better! It was at the School of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University where he fused his studies in Painting Specialization and Cinematography and discovered his true passion in the art of makeup!
His makeup career began in Chicago working on feature films, catalogues and special events with Chanel Beauté. In search of greater opportunities, Johnny moved to New York and gained tremendous experience in the fashion and beauty industry where he played a key part in launching the iconic brands of Nars and Giorgio Armani Cosmetics.
He had the honor of assisting legendary makeup artists Dick Page, Francois Nars and Pat McGrath at fashion shows and special events, which included Marc Jacobs, Anna Sui, Versace Versus, Daryl K. Johnny personally designed special event shows for Dolce & Gabbana and Carolina Herrera brands.
Johnny’s expertise and dedication during his time at Yves Saint Laurent as a manager and trainer for Barney’s New York and Saks Fifth Avenue led to his becoming the lead artist for YSL television appearances including Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style on Bravo as well as multiple appearances on QVC.
His editorial work has graced the pages of Allure Magazine, Women’s Wear Daily (WWD), People Magazine and Ladie’s Home Journal. He has been blogged about on Makeup.com, Beautysnob.com and recommended as one of the country’s best makeup artists on Vogue.com.

Johnny is legally married to his soul-mate Martin and lives in Manhattan.
